I was in my high school's AP Studio Art class in Senior Year. For the AP exam, we have to have 12 pieces that all fit a unifying theme, called a Concentrated Area.

My concentrated area focuses on high detail Prisma color drawings of winged mechanical bugs organized by month of the year. The bug is chosen by its prevalence in the specific month, and includes a low detail drawing of the fruit that is in season in that same month. All of the pieces are on 13-inch diameter circles, with a 14.5 by 14.5-inch black matting.

The subject matter is drawn and colored in Prisma color pencil, focusing on detail. My artistic influence is mainly the Steampunk time period, because I have always found the industrialism of it beautiful and intricate. Concentration number 1 starts with the month of January, where the ladybug is the most prevalent bug and the lemon is the fruit in season. The piece is of a detailed ladybug with a cut lemon. Concentration number 2 is a mechanical adult aphid on a peeling orange, representing the month of February. The concentration continues through the months from there. Concentration number 7 and 11 both have complimentary color scheme. Number 12 is relatively monochromatic. It ends with December portrayed through an Indian meal moth and a papaya. The main elements of art are line and value. The main principles of art are movement and unity. These principles and elements are shown through the bugs being outlined in Sharpie marker, and value being shown through use of colors and metallic shine. This is especially prevalent in piece numbers 1 and 5. The pieces have a unified circular composition and all work well together in a series.
